Oaken Wood in Kent is under threat from a nearby quarry, and despite the company saying that they will not displace the wildlife there, I find it hard to believe that there will be no long-term damage. Areas of the wood are dense chestnut coppice, but there are also some lovely ancient trees that cannot be replaced. I took the photos to try and capture the place rather than produce arty pictures. Hopefully they will give you a feel of this special woodland.

Misty Moon - The Last Days Of Winter Exhibition

Simon is taking part in another exhibition at The Misty Moon Gallery at The Ladywell Tavern, South London. This show features some new kaleidoscopic photographs and works by Elle Mackereth, Rik Berry and others.

Come and join us for preview night on Wednesday 27th of February from 7:30pm. All welcome.

On Saturday the 2nd of March there is another special evening featuring actress Margaret Nolan, who besides showing her artwork, will take part in a Q&A about her TV and film career. This event begins at 7pm.

Simon has some artwork on show at The Misty Moon Gallery in South London until February the 3rd (Note: now extended another week to Feb 10th!). The exhibition is called The Theatre Of Lights. Please come and have a look if you are in the area, its a nice little gallery that joins on to the Ladywell Tavern, London SE13.

As some of you may know, I take a lot of photographs these days. Recently I decided to build some designs based on the photographs (some were used as part of the projections in our last gig).

Photographs of The Heygate Estate

Photographs of the Heygate Estate, Elephant & Castle, Walworth, Southwark, South London. Soon to be demolished (it is now mostly boarded up), it is a stark, yet strangely beautiful view of urban decay. It was built in the 1970's and is a good example of post-war, 'neo-brutalist' architecture. Designed by Tim Tinker, it had an optimistic beginning, but soon had a reputation for crime and violence.

It has featured in several feature films including "Attack The Block", "Harry Brown" (with Michael Caine), "Shank" and scenes in "Hereafter" by Clint Eastwood. It was also a regular location for TV dramas "The Bill" and "Spooks".

I could see comparisons with other 1970's architecture in London, like the Barbican Centre, so it was a little sad that the place had dilapidated and had also failed it's residents. Yet, a strange beauty lies in its decay.
