Performance for the Misty Moon Film Festival this weekend
This weekend we will be giving a very special live performance for The Misty Moon Film Festival at The Ladywell Tavern in South London.
We will produce an improvised soundtrack to an edit of the 1963 Czech sci-fi film "Ikarie XB1".
It's an obscure black & white masterpiece of a film that is said to have partly inspired Kubrick's 2001 - A Space Odyssey.
Here is an excerpt from the original film:
Hopefully we will do something that suits this amazing movie..
The performance will last for an hour and will be part of an interesting evening of film and art, the opening night of the Misty Moon Film Festival. You will also be able to view the current Halloween Exhibition in The Misty Moon Gallery (which includes some photography by myself).
Please come and join us this Saturday the 26th of October from 7pm at The Ladywell Tavern, 80 Ladywell Road, South London. SE13 7HS. Entrance is free and because of the refurb that is in progress at the Tavern, it will be a cash only bar.
The nearest station is Ladywell, and this is probably the best way to travel there as parts of Ladywell Road are closed for major roadworks - please take this into account when travelling.
Hope to see you there!
UPDATE: We must thank the kind people at Second Run DVD for granting us permission to do this performance. Here is a link to their site where you can buy a newly restored version of Ikarie XB1:

Greenwich Performance Collective: The "Dennis" Tape
Greenwich Performance Collective existed in South London in the 1980s and was a hotbed of innovative creative activity. Embracing the punk D.I.Y ethic the collective brought together musicians, artists and performers of all types for gigs and events in London (and later for exchange gigs in the North of England). Many interesting and talented performers found a platform here and sometimes more established acts joined the gigs, such as Nico, ATV and others.
The collective produced several compilation cassettes during its existence and after a recent meeting with some of the core and founder members (Andi being one of them), we have began a digital archive of materials and recordings, mostly thanks to the collections of Dave Skull and Brian Moulton.
The first compilation tape to be digitised is the one called "Dennis". It contains tracks by over 21 acts, and although it is now nearly 30 years old, it has aged well and is a very entertaining listen. Check out the tracks below, and you can also download the entire tape, plus artwork and scans free.
GPC has a Facebook page where you can keep up to date with the additions to the archive and get the latest news relating not just to the GPC, but the other linked collectives of the time:

Oaken Wood, Kent
Oaken Wood, Kent, a set on Flickr.
Oaken Wood in Kent is under threat from a nearby quarry, and despite the company saying that they will not displace the wildlife there, I find it hard to believe that there will be no long-term damage. Areas of the wood are dense chestnut coppice, but there are also some lovely ancient trees that cannot be replaced. I took the photos to try and capture the place rather than produce arty pictures. Hopefully they will give you a feel of this special woodland. Please sign this petition to try and save it:

Hickeysonic: 666 Squadron: Panic & Carousels 13
One of our tracks was played recently during Stagger Lee Fisher's "Panic & Carousels" show that he does for Basic.fm in his Hickeysonic guise.
It was an excellent broadcast that featured loads of interesting sounds from the likes of Demdike Stare, Crass, Fuck Buttons. Dean Blunt, John Hopkins and more.
In Lee's words "you get to hear what being repeatedly smashed in the face with a cricket bat made from rum & sunshine does to a man's brain". It's well worth checking out, and you can follow this link to either stream or download the set (and see the track list):

X-Amount DJ set on Mixlr & Mixcloud
You can also download the whole thing free here:
The set covered pretty much our whole album output so far, and was a bit of a celebration of having got a couple of labels to release some of our stuff (at long last!)as well as the beginning of an attempt to re-master most of our back catalogue. It contains a new track, a new mix and some unheard material and edits.
It was recorded on a MacBook Pro using Algoriddim's DJay software and a Korg Padkntrol.
Here is a more detailed breakdown of the mix, track by track:
1: Glue Gun: this is an edit of a recent live jam. Glue Gun will appear in it's fully finished form soon (somewhere).
2: Chamber: A brand new track. Remix possible...
3: untitled: this is a clip from our very first laptop jam in 2011.
4: Sine (version): An unheard alternative mix from the recently re-mastered "Fat Bankers" album (1996), more dub in this one than the album version.
5: Out & Out: from "Early Work" (1993-1994)
6: Planj (in & out): An edit from the original jam that created a track called "Stammerung", which appeared in one of the Nakedbeatz live performances last year (incidentally the "numbers station" recordings we have used are our own, not from the Conet Project).
7: Sonbahar (part two): from the "01 02 03 04" EP on Jehm Records.(2013)
8: Him: from "Early Work" (1993-1994)
9: Blistering: A track that should have been on the "Some Previous" album (1994-1997). It was recorded back in the early 1990s, some fierce drum samples. It will be added as a bonus track when the album eventually appears on BandCamp.
10: Flight (edit): An edit from the original jam that produced "Flight" from the "Degraded" album (2011).
11: Jump Starter (Flat Battery mix): A brand new mix of "Jump Starter" from the "Degraded" album.
12: I Told You Not To Eat That: from "Six Months Of Community Service" (2012)
13: Wire Frame Ghost: from "Six Months Of Community Service" (2012)
14: Nitpicker: a remastered version of the track from "Gits Encroaching" (2011)
15: Scraper: from the "01 02 03 04" EP (2013)
16: Chunk (in & out): an edit of an unfinished forthcoming track
17: Wax (featuring E333): recent release on Experimentalist Recordings (2013)
18: Beepatron: an edit from the original jam that produced "The Wheel Fell Off" from "Gits Encroaching" (2011)
19: Feelers: Remastered version of the track from "You Need Glasses"(2011)
20: Big (outro): edit of a jam from 2011
21: Tokyo: from the recent remaster of "Fat Bankers" (1999)
22: untitled: another edit from our first laptop jam in 2011
23: PVC: forthcoming on a Jehm Records compilation
24: Wilting intro: edit from an unfinished track (2012)
25: Tyfoon: Remastered track from the "Leakage" album (mid 1990s/2003).
26: Sleepy (outro): edit from an unfinished track (2011).

A video for "Fat Deluge"
X-Amount - Fat Deluge (Refried Mix) from Simon Birch on Vimeo.
The footage for this was made for a recent live performance. It was generated using an iPhone with an added macro lens and an app called "Videoscope". The images are macro shots of rust and flaking paint.
The track "Fat Deluge" appears on our 2012 album "Six Months Of Community Service" which you can get here: x-amount.bandcamp.com/album/six-months-of-community-service

A new video for "PVC"
X-Amount - PVC from Simon Birch on Vimeo.
The footage for this was shot on an iPhone using "Videoscope", which is an app that will shoot kaleidoscopic footage. Most clips were shot from train windows or in train stations. You may spot Battersea Power Station and Battersea Bridge, Waterloo Station and other places. The downside (or upside, depending on how you look at it) with the app is that it only shoots for 29 seconds at a time. Originally, we shot 130 or so clips for a recent live performance, and this is just one of the tracks from the performance (others will follow). Some re-editing was done for this version.
You can get the track "PVC" by X-Amount here for just 50p:

Salisbury Live this Saturday May 25th
If you happen to be able to get to Salisbury (Wiltshire, UK) this weekend, why not come and see us play live?
We are performing at The Music Box as part of the "Salisbury Live" events, where the pubs and clubs throughout the town put on live music for free.
We are on first out of three acts playing at The Music Box that night.
Don't let that put you off though, we have put a lot of effort into this show. There will be a video accompanying our set that has been especially made, and some of the audio overdubs will be made from interviews conducted with some of the people of Salisbury last week.
It should be a good night.. and its free.
Hope to see you there
Simon & Andi.

New compilation album: "Early Work"
Here is a new 14 track compilation called "Early Work".
"Early Work" is a collection of tracks that we have dug out from the archives. These tracks were recorded in the early 1990s, back in the days when we were painstakingly putting together tunes using basic, but lovely MIDI gear. Atari STs, a Roland R8 drum machine, an E-MU ESi-32 Sampler, a Roland D110 Sound Module. Before Andi got the ESi-32, we were using an Akai X7000 sampler and some of these tracks date from those days. All hooked together with masses of jack leads and a crappy line mixer. No digital audio recording. Dub effects were applied live as the tape recorded the mixes.
Play loud and enjoy.
Simon & Andi.
